Shares outstanding at the end of the first quarter stood at 1.087 billion, down 1.4% from 1.102 billion at the end of the prior quarter and down 2.2% from 1.112 billion a year earlier.
Capital Position
KeyCorp's regulatory capital ratios remained strong in the first quarter. The bank's estimated Common Equity Tier 1 ratio stood at 11.4% as of March 31, 2026, down from 11.8% at year-end 2025. The Tier 1 risk-based capital ratio was 13.0%, compared to 13.5% in the previous quarter.
The tangible common equity to tangible assets ratio was 8.0% at quarter-end, down from 8.4% in the prior quarter but up from 7.4% a year earlier. The total risk-based capital ratio held at 15.2%, down from 15.7% at year-end 2025.
Business Segment Performance
KeyCorp's Consumer Bank generated $978 million in taxable-equivalent revenue during the first quarter, down 2.0% from the prior quarter but up 4.9% from a year earlier. The segment contributed $173 million in income from continuing operations, down 1.7% quarter-over-quarter but up 6.1% year-over-year.
The Commercial Bank segment posted revenue of $1.117 billion, down 6.4% from the fourth quarter but up 6.7% from the first quarter of 2025. Income from continuing operations for the segment was $451 million, down 4.4% sequentially but up 13.0% year-over-year.
Total revenue from continuing operations across all segments reached $1.953 billion, down 2.6% from the prior quarter but up 10.2% from a year earlier. Total income from continuing operations attributable to KeyCorp was $522 million, up 2.6% from the fourth quarter and up 28.6% from the first quarter of 2025.
